Large luxury modern kitchen in an art collector's New York home

A MAN AND HIS KITCHEN

Italian Cabinetry And Chef’s Appliances Come Together In A Luxury New York Kitchen Remodel

MandiCasa’s Italian kitchen cabinets proved to be the perfect match for an enthusiast home cook in an exquisite remodel that culminated in a surprise reveal. Here is how the project unfolded…

For his New York home, the client wanted a luxury modern kitchen design that would stand as a testament to his refined taste; a space to express both his passion for cooking and his love of art; a place that would truly belong to him, in every curated detail. MandiCasa New York designer, Maria Filimonova and the showroom team joined forces with interior designer, Lisa Pirro to bring this vision to life.

Wanting a surprise, the client only selected vendors and finishes, then gave the design team total creative freedom. He packed up in January 2024 and left the project in their hands, fully trusting them to deliver the home of his dreams.

Italian Dark Oak Cabinets For A Bold Aesthetic

To bring the client’s personality into the new kitchen, the team envisioned a bold contemporary space that would nonetheless feel cozy and inviting. At the heart of this aesthetic direction, the designers chose MandiCasa’s Yota cabinetry in Rovere Station. With a minimalist handleless and essential design, these Italian charcoal-stained dark oak cabinets gave the room a strong character.

The signature stainless steel look of Gaggenau appliances provided a sleek contrast to the dark cabinetry while the graceful veins of Quartzite Meridian (used for backsplash, countertops and the wall framing the window) brought a sense of movement to the kitchen.

MandiCasa’s Elite line of kitchen accessories completed the design, equipping cabinet and drawer interiors with bases in stainless steel and inserts in walnut to complement the exterior look.

Finally, the L-shaped layout created a welcoming embrace, allowing plenty of natural light to come through the windows and warm up the 320 sqft. space.

A “Man’s Kitchen” Designed For Performance

Supporting the client’s desire to have the best cooking tools available, the kitchen integrates a robust lineup of Gaggenau appliances, including: two gas cooktops, one full surface induction cooktop, a Teppan Yaki, a convection oven, a steam oven, a speed oven, warming and vacuum drawers, refrigeration, dishwashers, and a tall 24” wine cooler.

The two sinks feature a 4-ft Galley workstation and a 2-ft Galley bar station with the Ideal Tap and soap dispenser, all in matte stainless steel finish with anthracite accessories.

On the wall facing the windows, joining kitchen and dining area, tall cabinets in metal framed glass provide a sophisticated display for the client’s crystals and stemware collection.

Bringing Art Into The Kitchen Space

Included in the remodel was the fireplace lounge area, which sits opposite the kitchen. To achieve a cohesive space, the team framed the fireplace with the same Yota Rovere Station dark oak cabinets, along with bronze paneling to match the finish of the kitchen island’s hood.

Along with the foyer (also part of the remodel), the fireplace became an opportunity to showcase some of the client’s collection pieces. Tasteful pieces were carefully curated by the interior designer and placed in key spaces. The addition of open-shelf niches to the sides of the fireplace created the ideal spot for the client’s newly acquired Richard MacDonald sculptures, so he can enjoy them every time he is in the room. Lighting blended into the wood and metalwork turn the spotlight on these beautiful pieces.

The Reveal

Once every detail was in place, the client’s assistant and the interior designer arranged a reveal party, gathering everyone who worked on the project along with the client’s family. It was a pleasure to watch the client’s emotions of joy and excitement as he walked through the rooms and experienced the makeover – including the new kitchen design – for the very first time!
